Good governance for charities

Transform performance and effectiveness by applying good governance practices.

Good governance for charities

Are you facing difficult issues with a charity you’re involved with? Many charities start out with a clear vision and a founder’s driving personality but along the way, the vision can get blurred, the drive slows down, and personality conflicts can arise, particularly after the founder has moved on.

Good governance is vital for charities to operate effectively, responsibly and in alignment with their mission and stakeholders’ expectations, but it can be hard to pinpoint what’s lacking where! I can help you consider the relevant issues including strategy, accountability, compliance, ethics, diversity, resourcing and stewardship in order to build staff motivation, enhance effectiveness and ultimately improve overall performance, and I’m able to provide any training that’s required.

Over the years I have had success in resolving such difficult situations and also have experience in governance: I am currently the chair and non-executive director of Care Development East (a not-for-profit), have been the chair of Suffolk Police Authority (forerunner of the Police and Crime Commissioner) and was also chair of Rochford Trust, a local social and resource centre for young people.

Share with me your issues, in confidence, and I will help devise a way forward. This could take the form of a facilitated discussion, an Away Day type event or a review of your charity.
